Jenny Walker

Creative Arts at University of Sunderland

Magazine editor, photographer, designer, and all-round creative professional heavily involved in the music scene. My current role is as Editor-in-Chief of Gan On, a Sunderland based music and culture magazine, built to promote grassroots artists and creatives in the local and wider-regional scene. I am responsible for coordinating a team of contributors, copywriting, proofreading and editing, as well as building and designing print editions which I personally relaunched this year. I update the CMS regularly, create and manage content for social media, and build strong relationships with advertisers, distributors, and readers. Alongside my role at the magazine, I co-host The Local Music Show on Spark 107 FM, as well as being a creative freelancer. I work for music venues as a festival stage manager, gig rep, and lighting tech, as well as being an in-house merch seller for touring bands -- some of which I have interviewed as a part of Gan On, as well as my own work as a music journalist. I have created social media and marketing campaigns for various businesses, as well as managing social media accounts. Recently, I completed a project for a local restaurant launching a new lunch menu, where I was responsible for mapping out a shot list, photographing menu items (using industry standard equipment), editing the images to the best quality, and creating graphics for each menu item, alongside promotional posts for social media for the campaign rollout. I also designed a menu, as well as flyers and loyalty cards. My goals are to stay in the editorial and creative world, and continue to create meaningful content that allows myself and others to express and improve creative skills in a supportive environment.
